8 General Description:
9 This bill requires that if an animal shelter must euthanize an animal, the animal shelter
10 shall euthanize the animal by lethal injection or, one animal at a time, in a carbon
11 monoxide chamber.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This bill:

16 . makes technical corrections.

26 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
27 Section 1. Section 10-17-108 is enacted to read:

28 CHAPTER 17. MUNICIPAL ANIMAL SHELTER ACT
29 10-17-108. Euthanasia.
30 (1) As used in this section, "animal" means any animal accepted by an animal shelter.
31 (2) If an animal shelter must euthanize an animal, the animal shelter shall euthanize the
32 animal:
33 (a) (i) by lethal injection; or
34 (ii) subject to Subsection (2)(b), in a carbon monoxide chamber.
35 (b) If an animal is euthanized under Subsection (2)(a)(ii), the animal shelter may not
36 euthanize more than one animal at a time in the carbon monoxide chamber.
37 Section 2. Section 17-42-108 is enacted to read:

39 17-42-108. Euthanasia.
40 (1) As used in this section, "animal" means any animal accepted by an animal shelter.
41 (2) If an animal shelter must euthanize an animal, the animal shelter shall euthanize the
42 animal:
43 (a) (i) by lethal injection; or
44 (ii) subject to Subsection (2)(b), in a carbon monoxide chamber.
45 (b) If an animal is euthanized under Subsection (2)(a)(ii), the animal shelter may not
46 euthanize more than one animal at a time in the carbon monoxide chamber.
