General Description:

This joint resolution of the Legislature strongly encourages the United States
11
Department of Veterans Affairs to prioritize Utah for the construction of an additional
12
veterans' nursing home.

Highlighted Provisions:

This resolution:

. strongly encourages the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to prioritize
16
Utah for the construction of an additional veterans' nursing home; and
17
. encourages any and all efforts by the state of Utah to continue helping veterans
18
acquire properties and build a veterans' nursing home in central and southern Utah.

Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

WHEREAS, there is great need for the construction of an additional nursing home for
24
veterans in Utah;
25
WHEREAS, Utah is still significantly below the nation's average for the total number
26
of needed veterans' nursing homes statewide;
27
WHEREAS, due to the heavy numbers of veterans in the state of Utah, the United
28
States Department of Veterans Affairs should prioritize Utah for the construction of an
29
additional veterans' nursing home;
30
WHEREAS, Utah should also be prioritized based on the absolute promise of the
31
United States Department of Veterans Affairs to reimburse the state for the Veterans' Nursing
32
Home in Ogden.

WHEREAS, any and all efforts by the state of Utah to continue to help veterans acquire
34
properties and build a home in central and southern Utah should be encouraged.

WHEREAS, the citizens of Utah and the citizens of the United States owe a debt to our
36
veterans of the past, present and future; and

WHEREAS, constructing an additional veterans' nursing home will demonstrate a
38
measure of gratitude for their service:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
40
strongly encourages the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to prioritize Utah for the
41
construction of another veterans' nursing home.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah encourages any
43
and all efforts by the state of Utah to continue helping veterans acquire properties and build a
44
veterans' nursing home in central and southern Utah.
45
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the United
46
States Department of Veterans Affairs, the Utah Department of Veteran's Affairs, and to the
47
members of Utah's congressional delegation.
