             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This bill modifies the Nurse Practice Act by amending provisions for nursing education
             11      programs.
             12      Highlighted Provisions:
             13          This bill:
             14          .    requires a nursing education program to be:
             15              .    accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the
             16      National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or the
             17      Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA); or
             18              .    approved by the Board of Nursing or an equivalent agency in the state in which
             19      the nursing education program is offered; and
             20          .    makes technical changes.

             29      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             30          Section 1. Section 58-31b-601 is amended to read:
             31           58-31b-601. Minimum standards for nursing programs -- Medication aide
             32      training.
             33          (1) [A] To qualify as an approved education program and qualify graduates for
             34      licensure under this chapter, a nursing education program shall:
             35          (a) be affiliated with an accredited institution of higher education [in order to be
             36      approved by the division.];
             37          [(2) The minimum standards a nursing program shall meet to qualify graduates for
             38      licensure under this chapter shall be defined by division rule.]
             39          (b) (i) be accredited by the:
             40          (A) Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education;
             41          (B) National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; or
             42          (C) Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs; or
             43          (ii) be approved by the board or an equivalent agency in the state in which the nursing
             44      education program is offered; and
             45          (c) comply with standards defined by division rules.
             46          (2) An approved education program under Subsection (1), may offer its courses using
             47      classroom, clinical, or online methods.
             48          (3) In accordance with Title 63G, Chapter 3, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, and
             49      the provisions of this chapter, the division shall make rules defining the minimum standards for
             50      a medication aide certified training program to qualify a person for certification under this
             51      chapter as a medication aide certified.
