9 General Description:
10 This rules resolution creates a joint rule that requires training for new senators and
11 representatives.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 . creates a joint rule listing required training for new senators and representatives;
15 . requires that required training include instruction on Utah's statistical demographics
16 and on cultural diversity and sensitivity; and
17 . assigns responsibility for the training.

24 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 Section 1. JR1-4-201 is enacted to read:
26 Part 2. Training
27 JR1-4-201. New legislator training.

28 (1) Training that is provided to newly elected senators and representatives shall include
29 instruction on:
30 (a) the demographics of the people of Utah, including but not limited to statistical
31 information on age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic standing; and
32 (b) diversity and sensitivity to the many unique communities and demographics within
33 the state of Utah.
34 (2) The training required in Subsection (1) shall be provided by the Office of
35 Legislative Research and General Counsel.
