PUBLIC EDUCATION STATE CAPITOL VISIT FUNDING

             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill provides funding to take public school students on field trips to the state
             10      capitol.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    allows the State Board of Education to award grants to school districts and charter
             14      schools to take students on field trips to the state capitol;
             15          .    specifies that the grant money may be used to pay for transportation expenses
             16      related to taking students on a field trip to the state capitol; and
             17          .    requires the State Board of Education to make rules:
             18              .    establishing procedures for applying for and awarding grants; and
             19              .    specifying how grant money shall be allocated among school districts and
             20      charter schools.
             21      Money Appropriated in this Bill:
             22          This bill appropriates in fiscal year 2014:
             23          .    to the State Board of Education as a one-time appropriation:
             24              .    from the Education Fund, H. [ $20,000 ] $9,800 .H .
             25      Other Special Clauses:
             26          This bill provides an effective date.
             27      Utah Code Sections Affected:


             28      ENACTS:
             29          53A-17a-169, Utah Code Annotated 1953

             31      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             32          Section 1. Section 53A-17a-169 is enacted to read:
             33          53A-17a-169. Grants for field trips to the state capitol.
             34          (1) The State Board of Education may award grants to school districts and charter
             35      schools to take students on field trips to the state capitol.
             36          (2) Grant money may be used to pay for transportation expenses related to a field trip
             37      to the State Capitol.
             38          (3) The State Board of Education shall make rules:
             39          (a) establishing procedures for applying for and awarding grants; and
             40          (b) specifying how grant money shall be allocated among school districts and charter
             41      schools.
             42          Section 2. Appropriation.
             43          Under the terms and conditions of Title 63J, Chapter 1, Budgetary Procedures Act, for
             44      the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2014, the following sums of money
             45      are appropriated from resources not otherwise appropriated, or reduced from amounts
             46      previously appropriated, out of the funds or accounts indicated. These sums of money are in
             47      addition to any amounts previously appropriated for fiscal year 2014.
             48          To State Board of Education
             49          From Education Fund, One-time                  H. [ $20,000 ] $9,800 .H
             50          Schedule of Programs:
             51              Related to Basic Program - State Capitol Field Trips     H. [ $20,000 ] $9,800 .H              52          Section 3. Effective date.
             53          (1) Except as provided in Subsection (2), this bill takes effect on May 14, 2013.
             54          (2) Uncodified Section 2, Appropriation, takes effect on July 1, 2013.
