             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill requires a college or university within the state system of higher education to
             10      award credit or competencies for certain military service training and experience.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    requires an institution of higher education to award credit or competencies for
             14      military service and training as recommended by the American Council on
             15      Education;
             16          .    provides that credit or competencies awarded shall be fully transferable among
             17      institutions of higher education; and
             18          .    requires the Board of Regents and the Utah College of Applied Technology Board
             19      of Trustees to report annually to the Education Interim Committee and the Utah
             20      Department of Veterans' Affairs.

             29      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             30          Section 1. Section 53B-16-107 is enacted to read:
             31          53B-16-107. Credit for military service and training -- Transferability --
             32      Reporting.
             33          (1) An institution of higher education listed in Section 53B-2-101 , shall, upon the
             34      request of a student, award credit or competencies for military service and training as
             35      recommended by the American Council on Education.
             36          (2) Credit or competency awarded for military service and training pursuant to
             37      Subsection (1) shall be fully transferable, as applicable, among institutions of higher education.
             38          (3) The Board of Regents and the Utah College of Applied Technology Board of
             39      Trustees shall annually report the number of credits or competencies awarded under this
             40      section by each institution of higher education to the Education Interim Committee and the
             41      Utah Department of Veterans' Affairs.
