             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill appropriates money to increase the number of students admitted to the
             10      University of Utah School of Medicine.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    authorizes the University of Utah School of Medicine to increase the number of
             14      students admitted by 40 students for a total of 122 students annually; and
             15          .    requires that no fewer than 80% of all students admitted annually to the University
             16      of Utah School of Medicine shall:
             17              .    meet the qualifications of resident student for the purposes of tuition; or
             18              .    have graduated from a high school, college, or university located in Utah.
             19      Money Appropriated in this Bill:
             20          This bill appropriates:
             21          .    to the University of Utah School of Medicine, as an ongoing appropriation for fiscal
             22      year 2013-14:
             23              .    from the Education Fund, $10,000,000.
             24      Other Special Clauses:
             25          This bill takes effect on July 1, 2013.

             30      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             31          Section 1. Section 53B-17-901 is enacted to read:
             32     
Part 9. School of Medicine

             33          53B-17-901. Admissions -- Increase authorized.
             34          (1) Beginning with the 2013-14 school year and subject to Subsection (2), the
             35      University of Utah School of Medicine may increase the number of students admitted by 40
             36      students for a total of 122 students admitted annually.
             37          (2) Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, no fewer than 80% of the students
             38      admitted annually shall:
             39          (a) meet the qualifications of a resident student for the purpose of tuition in accordance
             40      with:
             41          (i) Section 53B-8-102 ;
             42          (ii) State Board of Regents policy on determining resident status; and
             43          (iii) University of Utah policy on determining resident status;
             44          (b) have graduated from a public or private college or university located in Utah; or
             45          (c) have graduated from a public or private high school located in Utah.
             46          Section 2. Appropriation.
             47          Under the terms and conditions of Title 63J, Chapter 1, Budgetary Procedures Act, for
             48      the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2014, the following sums of money
             49      are appropriated from resources not otherwise appropriated, or reduced from amounts
             50      previously appropriated, out of the funds or accounts indicated. These sums of money are in
             51      addition to any amounts previously appropriated for fiscal year 2014.
