7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill appropriates money to increase the number of students admitted to the
10 University of Utah School of Medicine.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . authorizes the University of Utah School of Medicine to increase the number of
14 students admitted by 40 students for a total of 122 students annually; and
15 . restricts the 40 additional admissions to students who demonstrate a strong
16 connection to Utah.
17 Money Appropriated in this Bill:
18 This bill appropriates:
19 . to the University of Utah School of Medicine, as an ongoing appropriation for fiscal
20 year 2013-14:
21 . from the Education Fund, $10,000,000.
22 Other Special Clauses:
23 This bill takes effect on July 1, 2013.

28 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
29 Section 1. Section 53B-17-901 is enacted to read:
30 Part 9. School of Medicine
31 53B-17-901. Admissions -- Increase authorized and restricted to students who
32 demonstrate strong connection to Utah.
33 (1) Beginning with the 2013-14 school year and subject to Subsection (2), the
34 University of Utah School of Medicine may increase the number of students admitted by 40
35 students for a total of 122 students admitted annually.
36 (2) (a) The additional 40 admissions authorized under Subsection (1) shall be restricted
37 to students who demonstrate a strong connection to Utah.
38 (b) The University of Utah School of Medicine Admissions Committee shall establish
39 criteria to determine whether a student demonstrates a strong connection to Utah.
40 Section 2. Appropriation.
41 Under the terms and conditions of Title 63J, Chapter 1, Budgetary Procedures Act, for
42 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2014, the following sums of money
43 are appropriated from resources not otherwise appropriated, or reduced from amounts
44 previously appropriated, out of the funds or accounts indicated. These sums of money are in
45 addition to any amounts previously appropriated for fiscal year 2014.
