             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill amends the Utah Agricultural Code.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    provides for the appointment of the state veterinarian by the Commissioner of the
             13      Department of Agriculture and Food; and
             14          .    establishes the state veterinarian's responsibilities.
             15      Money Appropriated in this Bill:

             24      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             25          Section 1. Section 4-2-401 is enacted to read:
             26     
Part 4. State Veterinarian

             27          4-2-401. Appointment.


             28          The state veterinarian shall be appointed by the commissioner.
             29          Section 2. Section 4-2-402 is enacted to read:
             30          4-2-402. State veterinarian responsibilities.
             31          (1) The state veterinarian shall:
             32          (a) direct the department's responsibilities for:
             33          (i) the promotion of animal health;
             34          (ii) the diagnosis, surveillance, and prevention of animal disease;
             35          (iii) the inspection of meat and poultry; and
             36          (iv) livestock brand registration and inspection; and
             37          (b) perform other official duties assigned by the commissioner.
             38          (2) The state veterinarian may not H. [ engage ] receive compensation for services
             38a      provided while engaging .H in the private practice of veterinary
             39      medicine.
             39a      H. (3) The state veterinarian shall be a veterinarian licensed under Title 58, Chapter 28,
             39b      Veterinary Practice Act. .H
