7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill amends motorcycle provisions of the Traffic Code.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 . authorizes the operation of a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle between lanes of
13 traffic and between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles, pursuant to rules made by the
14 Department of Public Safety; and
15 . grants rulemaking authority.

24 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 Section 1. Section 41-6a-1502 is amended to read:
26 41-6a-1502. Motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or all-terrain type I vehicles --
27 Operation on public highways.
28 (1) (a) A motorcycle or a motor-driven cycle is entitled to full use of a lane.
29 (b) A person may not operate a motor vehicle in a manner that deprives a motorcycle or
30 motor-driven cycle of the full use of a lane.
31 (c) This Subsection (1) does not apply to motorcycles or motor-driven cycles operated
32 two abreast in a single lane.
33 (2) The operator of a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle may not overtake and pass in
34 the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken.

40 (b) The department shall make the rules described in Subsection (3)(a) before July 1,
41 2014.
42 (4) Motorcycles or motor-driven cycles may not be operated more than two abreast in a
43 single lane.
44 (5) Subsections (2) and (3) do not apply to peace officers acting in the peace officers'
45 official capacities.
46 (6) The provisions of this section also apply to all-terrain type I vehicles.
