10 General Description:
11 This joint resolution of the Legislature expresses strong support for the Salt Lake
12 International Airport Terminal Redevelopment Program and efforts to enhance the
13 Airport's positive economic impact on the state of Utah.
14 Highlighted Provisions:
15 This resolution:
16 . expresses strong support for the Salt Lake City Department of Airports'
17 redevelopment project; and
18 . expresses strong support for the Salt Lake City Department of Airports'
19 commitment and efforts to:
20 . modernize airport facilities;
21 . maintain mutually beneficial relationships with airlines, vendors, and others
22 who service the Salt Lake International Airport, including local businesses
23 invited to participate in the redevelopment project and who otherwise service
24 the Salt Lake International Airport and the traveling public;
25 . enhance the state of Utah's image, both nationally and internationally, with
26 travelers; and
27 . enhance the Airport's positive economic impact on the state of Utah, including
28 employing many Utahns and indirectly impacting the employment of thousands of Utahns,
29 including those employed by local businesses.

33 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
34 WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City International Airport (the Airport) is the second largest
35 and one of the fastest growing hubs for Delta Airlines;
36 WHEREAS, the Airport also has a strong affiliation with other major airlines;
37 WHEREAS, the Airport annually serves 20 million passengers;
38 WHEREAS, in terms of passenger numbers, the Airport is the 26th busiest in North
39 America and the 64th busiest in the world;
40 WHEREAS, the Airport has consistently maintained a strong on-time performance
41 record;
42 WHEREAS, the Airport is close to downtown Salt Lake City and has convenient access
43 to national and state parks and other tourist areas, making it critical to Utah's tourism and travel
44 industry;
45 WHEREAS, the Airport facilities and the service provided by the Airport leave a
46 significant impression on those traveling to and from the state of Utah;
47 WHEREAS, the Airport has developed and maintained important relationships with
48 airlines, vendors, and others who provide services supporting the Airport, including local
49 businesses;
50 WHEREAS, the Airport is a significant source of employment for Utah workers,
51 including direct employment and affiliations with other employers who employ thousands of
52 Utahns;
53 WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Corporation has been a supporter of local businesses;
54 WHEREAS, Airport operations have a significant impact on Utah's economy;
55 WHEREAS, the Airport's facilities, now 50 years old, are obsolete and not designed to
56 handle the ever-increasing numbers of travelers who utilize the Airport;
57 WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Department of Airports has undertaken the significant
58 and necessary project of expanding and rebuilding the Airport, referred to as the Salt Lake City
59 International Airport Terminal Redevelopment Program; and
60 WHEREAS, the redevelopment project will modernize the Airport, including making it
61 a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, secure, and earthquake resistant facility:
62 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
63 expresses strong support for Salt Lake City Department of Airports' redevelopment project.
64 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah expresses
65 strong support for the Salt Lake City Department of Airports' commitment and efforts to:
66 1. modernize airport facilities;
67 2. maintain mutually beneficial relationships with airlines, vendors, and others who
68 service the Salt Lake International Airport, including local businesses invited to participate in
69 the redevelopment project and who otherwise service the Salt Lake International Airport and
70 the traveling public;
71 3. enhance the state of Utah's image, both nationally and internationally, with travelers;
72 and
73 4. enhance the Salt Lake International Airport's positive economic impact on the state
74 of Utah, including employing many Utahns and indirectly impacting the employment of
75 thousands more, including those employed by local businesses.
76 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Salt Lake
77 City Airport Board, the Salt Lake City Corporation, and the Salt Lake City Department of
78 Airports.
