Vice Chair Westwood called the meeting to order at 4:14 p.m.


MOTION:     Rep. Oda moved to approve the minutes of the February 3, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Sandall absent for the vote.

 

S.B. 26            Occupational Therapy Practice Act Reauthorization (Sen. W. Harper) (Rep. B. Greene)


Sen. Harper explained the bill to the committee.


MOTION:     Rep. Hawkes moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Sandall absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 218         Nurse Practice Act Amendments (Rep. S. DiCaro)


Rep. DiCaro explained the bill to the committee and distributed the handout "Protect Nursing Students, Pass HB 218, Nurse Practice Act Amendments." Rep. DiCaro was assisted by Mr. Frank Pignanelli, Utah Association of Public Sector Colleges and Universities.


MOTION:     Rep. DiCaro moved to amend the bill as follows:


 

1.    Page 2, Lines 29 through 32:   

 

29   (1) Except as provided in Subsection (2), to qualify as an approved education program

30for the purpose of qualifying graduates for licensure under this chapter, a nursing education

31program shall be accredited by [the:] {  a programmatic  }  an  accrediting body for nursing education

32that is approved by the United States Department of Education.

The motion passed unanimously.

 

Mr. Chuck Erickson, Chief Operating Officer, Eagle Gate College Group, spoke to the bill.

 

MOTION:     Rep. Sandall moved to pass the bill out favorably as amended. The motion passed unanimously.
