14     LONG TITLE
15     General Description:
16          This bill deals with the regulation of certain water heaters.
17     Highlighted Provisions:
18          This bill:
19          ▸     defines terms;
20          ▸     prohibits the sale or purchase of a natural gas-fired water heater that is
21     manufactured after July 1, 2018, with the intent to install the natural gas-fired water
22     heater in Utah if the natural gas-fired water heater exceeds the limits set in Title
23     15A, State Construction and Fire Codes Act;
24          ▸     creates labeling requirements for a manufacturer of a water heater; and
25          ▸     exempts certain water heater units.

34     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
35          Section 1. Section 19-2-107.7 is enacted to read:
36          19-2-107.7. Water heater regulations.
37          (1) As used in this section:
38          (a) "Natural gas-fired water heater" means a device that heats water by the combustion
39     of natural gas to a thermostatically-controlled temperature not exceeding 210 degrees
40     Fahrenheit for use external to the vessel at pressures not exceeding 160 pounds per square inch
41     gauge.
42          (b) "Recreational vehicle" means a motor home, travel trailer, truck camper, or
43     camping trailer, with or without motive power, designed for human habitation for recreational,
44     emergency, or other occupancy.
45          (2) A person may not sell or purchase a natural gas-fired water heater that is
46     manufactured after July 1, 2018 with the intent to install it in Utah if the natural gas-fired water
47     heater exceeds the applicable nitrogen oxide emission rate limit set in Title 15A, State
48     Construction and Fire Codes Act.
49          (3) A manufacturer in Utah shall display the model number and nitrogen oxide
50     emission rate of a water heater complying with this section on:
51          (a) the shipping carton for the water heater; and
52          (b) the permanent rating plate of each water heater unit.
53          (4) This section does not apply to a water heater unit that:
54          (a) uses a fuel other than natural gas;
55          (b) is used in a recreational vehicle; or

56          (c) is manufactured in Utah for shipment and use outside of Utah.
