Vice Chair Nelson called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.

 

S.B.71             Children's Justice Center Amendments (R. Okerlund)


Sen. Okerlund reviewed the bill from the last meeting with the assistance of Tracey Tabet, Attorney General's Office.

 

MOTION:     Rep. Cox moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Stratton absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 274         Involuntary Civil Commitment Modifications (E. Redd)


Rep. Redd explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:     Rep. Nelson moved to replace H.B. 274 with 1st Sub. H.B. 274. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Stratton absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:     Rep. King moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed with Rep. Greene and Rep. Oda voting in opposition.

 

H.B. 337         Student Right to Active Counsel (K. Colemen)


Rep. Coleman explained the bill to the committee with the assistance of Joseph Cohn, Foundation

for Individual Rights in Education.


Spoke against the bill: David Buhler, Commissioner of Higher Education

 

MOTION:     Rep. Greene moved to replace H.B. 337 with 1st Sub. H.B 337. The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:     Rep. Cutler moved that the committee move to the next item on the agenda.


SUBSTITUTE

MOTION:     Rep. King moved to send the bill back to the Rules Committee. The motion was withdrawn.


The original motion to move to the next item on the agenda passed unanimously.

Rep. Escamilla explained the bill to the committee.
