8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor expresses gratitude to
11     those working to prevent and reduce unwanted fire.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This resolution:
14          ▸     outlines the duties and contributions of the State Fire Marshal and local fire
15     departments;
16          ▸     highlights the ways in which fire prevention, fire suppression, and fire investigation
17     protect the physical and economic health of the state and its citizens; and
18          ▸     acknowledges the work of, and expresses gratitude for, the sacrifice of the men and
19     women working in fire prevention, fire suppression, and fire investigation.
20     Special Clauses:
21          None

23     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
24          WHEREAS, the State Fire Marshal is tasked by the Legislature of the state of Utah
25     with enforcing the state fire code;
26          WHEREAS, the State Fire Marshal is tasked by the Legislature of the state of Utah
27     with promoting and supporting injury prevention public education programs;

28          WHEREAS, the State Fire Marshal shares this responsibility with local fire
29     departments, fire districts, the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, and agencies within
30     the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Agriculture;
31          WHEREAS, fire prevention has proven its value in reducing injury, death, and property
32     loss due to unwanted fire;
33          WHEREAS, fire prevention helps ensure the economic health of large and small
34     businesses, and of the state of Utah as a whole;
35          WHEREAS, fire suppression is critical in addressing unforeseen fire hazards and works
36     to reduce losses due to fire through fire suppression;
37          WHEREAS, firefighters selflessly risk their lives daily ensuring the safety of the public
38     by participating in fire prevention and responding to emergencies caused by unforeseen
39     hazards; and
40          WHEREAS, the role of fire investigation in determining the origin and cause of fire is
41     an essential part of improving fire prevention and fire suppression:
42          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
43     Governor concurring therein, acknowledges the work and sacrifice of the men and women
44     working in fire prevention, fire suppression, and fire investigation, who have dedicated their
45     professional lives to the prevention and reduction of loss due to fire.
46          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor express their
47     gratitude to those working to prevent and reduce the catastrophe caused by unwanted fire.
48          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the State Fire
49     Marshal, the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, the U.S. Department of the
50     Interior, and U.S. Department of Agriculture.
