8 General Description:
9 This bill enacts provisions regarding freight train crew size requirements.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 ▸ provides definitions;
13 ▸ prohibits certain railroads from operating a freight train or light engine used in
14 connection with the movement of freight unless it has a crew consisting of at least
15 two individuals; and
16 ▸ exempts the operations of a public transit district from the two individuals crew
17 requirement.

26 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
27 Section 1. Section 56-1-25.5 is enacted to read:
28 56-1-25.5. Freight train crew size.
29 (1) As used in this section:
30 (a) "Class I railroad," "class II railroad," and "class III railroad" mean the same as those
31 terms are defined in 49 U.S.C. Sec. 20102.
32 (b) "Public transit district" means a public transit district organized under Title 17B,
33 Chapter 2a, Part 8, Public Transit District Act.
34 (2) A class I railroad, class II railroad, or class III railroad may not operate a freight
35 train or light engine used in connection with the movement of freight unless the railroad has a
36 crew consisting of at least two individuals.
37 (3) The provisions of this section do not apply to the operations of a public transit
38 district.
