Chair Madsen asked Sen. Weiler to chair the committee.

 

Sen. Weiler called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.

 

S.B. 88                        Child Interview Amendments (Sen. R. Okerlund)

 

Sen. Okerlund explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke to the bill:         Paul Boyden, Executive Director, Statewide Association of Prosecutors 

                                    Megan Smith, Deputy District Attorney, Salt Lake County

                                    Susanne Mitchell, Director, Children’s Justice Center

                                    Tracey Tabet, Divison Chief, Attorney General’s Office

 

MOTION:  Sen. Hillyard moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Jones, Sen. Urquhart, and Sen. Madsen absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 50        Involuntary Feeding and Hydration of Inmates Amendments (Rep. R.Greenwood)

 

Rep. Greenwood explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke to the bill:         Susan Burke, Director, Juvenile Justice Service

 

MOTION:  Sen. Thatcher moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hillary and Sen. Madsen absent for the vote.

 

 

 

S.B. 69                        Prejudgment Interest Revisions (Sen. S. Urquhart)

 

Sen. Urquhart explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Urquhart moved to proceed to next item on the agenda.

 

Sen. Weiler relinquished the chair to Sen. Madsen.

 

H.B. 53        Restitution Amendments (Rep. J. Peterson)

 

Rep. Peterson explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke to the bill:         Susan Burke, Director, Juvenile Justice Service

                                    Rick Schwermer, Assistant State Court Administrator

 

MOTION:  Sen. Thatcher moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hillyard and Sen. Urquhart absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 290      Criminal Code – General Provisions (Rep. C. Moss)

 

Rep. Moss explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Thatcher moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hillyard absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Jones moved the bill be placed on the Consent Calendar. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hillyard absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Thatcher moved to adjourn.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen.

                     Hillyard absent for the vote.
