Chair Henderson called the meeting to order at 8:08 a.m.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Bramble moved to approve the minutes of the February 26, 2014 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Harper absent for the vote.    

 

S.B. 244       Modifications to Property Tax (Sen. A. Osmond)

 

Sen. Osmond explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Osmond moved to replace S.B. 244 with 1st Sub. S.B. 244. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Harper absent for the vote.

 

Spoke to the bill:         Wayne Cushing, Treasurer, Salt Lake County

 

Spoke for the bill:       Linda Hall, Utah Department of Transportation

 

MOTION:  Sen. Jenkins moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis absent for the vote.

 

S.B. 257       Parent Review of Instructional Materials and Curriculum (Sen. H. Stephenson)

 

Sen. Stephenson explained the bill to the committee.

 

 

 

 

MOTION:   Sen. Stephenson moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.         Page 5, Lines 124 through 127: 


                                       124        (ii)  The report shall include the number of complaints categorized by:

                                       125        (A)  grade level and course;

                                       126        (B)  reason identified; and

                                       127        (C)  action taken by   the state school board,  a school district  ,   or school with respect to a complaint.

 

The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Stephenson moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously.

SUBSTITUTE MOTION:   Sen Stephenson moved to amend the bill as follows:

 

Delete the House amendments on lines 321 through 322a.

 

The motion failed with Sen. Jenkins and Sen. Stephenson voting in favor.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Harper moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed with Sen. Jenkins and Sen. Stephenson voting in opposition.

 

H.B. 74        Energy Efficient Vehicle Tax Credits (Rep. V. L. Snow)

 

Rep. Snow explained the bill to the committee.

H.B. 209      Extension of Sales and Use Tax Exemption (Rep. R. Wilcox)

 

Rep. Wilcox explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke for the bill:       Dave Reinhart, Controller, Nucor Steel

 

MOTION:  Sen. Bramble moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed with Sen. Dabakis voting in opposition and Sen. Christensen absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Harper moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.
