Chair Henderson called the meeting to order at 4:17 p.m.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Jenkins moved to approve the minutes of the March 4, 2014 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis, Sen. Harper, and Sen. Bramble absent for the vote.    

 

S.J.R. 18      Utah Fiber Friendly State – Joint Resolution (Sen. H. Stephenson)

 

MOTION:   Sen. Stephenson moved to replace S.J.R. 18 with 1st Sub. S.J.R. 18. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Bramble absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Stephenson moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.         Page 1, Lines 17 through 20:     


             17                   urges the Governor's Office of Economic Development to work in concert with the

             18        Utah League of Cities and Towns and   {to offer}   private providers   to offer  support,

             19        encouragement, and technical expertise to Utah's cities and towns in promoting the

             20        goal of broadband connectivity to every Utah home and business.


 

2.         Page 3, Lines 64 through 68:     


                                       64   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah urges the

                                       65   Governor's Office of Economic Development to work in concert with the Utah League of

                                       66   Cities and Towns and   {to offer}   private providers   to offer  support, encouragement, and technical

                                       67   expertise to Utah's cities and towns in promoting the goal of broadband connectivity to every

                                       68   Utah home and business.

 

The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Bramble absent for the vote.

 

Sen. Stephenson explained the bill to the committee.

 

Chair Henderson asked Sen. Harper to chair the meeting.

 

Sen. Harper asked Sen. Bramble to chair the meeting.

 

Spoke for the bill:       Roger Tew, Utah League of Cities and Towns

 

MOTION:  Sen. Stephenson moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Henderson and Sen. Harper absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 218      Tax Credit for Working Individuals and Families (Rep. E. Hutchings)

 

Sen. Davis explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke for the bill:       Tracy S. Gruber, Senior Policy Analyst, Voices for Utah Children

                     Emily Jordison, Program Coordinator, Community Action Partnership of  Utah

 

MOTION:  Sen. Davis moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed with Sen. Jenkins voting in opposition and Sen. Henderson, Sen. Harper and Sen. Stephenson absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Jenkins moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Henderson, Sen. Harper, and Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

 

Sen. Bramble adjourned the meeting at 4:38 p.m.
