Chair Millner called the meeting to order at 2:13 p.m.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Debakis moved to approve the minutes of the January 27, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Madsen and Stephenson absent for the vote.    

 

S.B. 65         In-state Tuition for Families of Fallen Public Safety Officers Amendments (Sen. C. Bramble)

 

MOTION: Sen. Osmond moved to amend S.B. 65 as follows:

 

 

1.    Page 1, Line 1:    

 

1                                                    IN-STATE TUITION AND FEES  FOR FAMILIES OF FALLEN

 

2.     Page 1, Line 15:   

 

                     15                       removes a need-based requirement to receive a tuition and fees waiver at a state institution of

                    

3.    Page 2, Line 29:  

 

29          53B-8c-103.   Tuition and fees waivers for surviving spouses and children of police officers

 

4.    Page 2, Line 33:  

 

           33             tuition and fees for each child and surviving spouse of a Utah peace officer or Utah firefighter who has

 

                    

5.   Page 2, Line 38:   

 

  38                (c) applies to the department for a waiver of tuition and fees under this chapter and provides

                    

6.   Page 2, Line 42:   

 

           42              (ii)  the course or courses for which the applicant is seeking a tuition and fees waiver meet the

                    

7. Page 2, Line 58:     

 

                    58              [(g)] (f) has not achieved a bachelor's degree and has received tuition and fees reimbursement

                    

8.   Page 3, Line 62:   

 

                  62             line of duty is eligible for a tuition and fees waiver under this section of not more than nine semesters or

Sen. Vickers explained the bill to the committee.

Sen. Stephenson explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Osmond moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 30        Math Teacher Training Program Amendments (Rep. R. Edwards)

 

Rep. Edwards explained the bill to the committee.
