Chair Weiler called the meeting to order at 7:10 a.m.

 

S.B. 91         Postretirement Employment Amendments (Sen. L. Hillyard)

 

Sen. Hillyard explained the bill to the committee:

 

Spoke to the bill:         Mr. Dee Larsen, Legal Counsel, Utah Retirement Systems

 

MOTION:   Sen. Dayton moved to return the bill to rules for interim study.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

H.B. 12        Utah Retirement System Amendments (Rep. K. Powell)

 

Rep. Powell explained the bill to the committee:

MOTION:   Sen. Mayne moved to the amend H. B. 12 as follows:

1.   Page 1, Lines 24 through 25:       


             24             restrictions; 

     provides that, upon request, an insurance premium may be deducted from a retirement allowance for certain retirees; 

             25             requires a participating employer who reemploys a retiree to contribute the


 

2.    Page 15, Lines 432 through 434:


                                432        (3)    (a)  The office may, upon the request of the retiree, deduct from the retiree's allowance  ,   

                         433 insurance premiums or other dues payable on behalf of the retiree, but only to those entities

                         434 that have received the deductions prior to February 1, 2002. 

(b)   The office may, upon the request of a retiree of a public safety or firefighter system, deduct insurance premiums from the retiree's allowance.   

 

The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Mayne moved to pass the amended bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

S.B. 41         Utah Science Center Authority Amendments (Sen. T. Weiler)

 

Sen. Weiler explained the bill to the committee:

 

MOTION:   Sen. Weiler moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Dayton moved to place the bill on the consent calendar.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Sen. Weiler resumed the chair.

 

S.B. 128       Long-term Disability Insurance Plan Amendments (Sen. M. Dayton)

 

Sen. Dayton explained the bill to the committee:

MOTION:   Sen. Bramble moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Bramble moved to place the bill on the consent calendar.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Thatcher moved to adjourn.  The motion passed unanimously.
