Sen. Fillmore assumed the Committee Chair and called the meeting to order at 2:13 p.m.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Iwamoto moved to approve the minutes of the January 28, 2016 meeting.  The motion passed unanimously with, Sen. Mayne and Sen. Okerlund absent for the vote.

    

S.B.  103      Strategic Workforce Investments (A. Millner)

 

Sen. Millner explained the bill and answered questions from the committee.

 

Sen. Stevenson assumed the Committee Chair.

 

Sen. Fillmore resumed the Committee Chair.

MOTION:  Sen. Okerlund moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

S.B.  98        Arts and Cultural Education Spending (J. Dabakis)

 

Sen. Dabakis explained the bill and answered questions from the committee.

 

Spoke for the bill:       Crystal Young-Otterstrom, Executive Director, Utah Cultural Alliance

                                    Jean Cheney, Associate Director, Utah Humanities Council

 

Spoke against the bill:  Jeff Stephens, Superintendent, Weber School District                                            

MOTION:  Sen.  Mayne moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion failed with Sen. Iwamoto, and Sen. Mayne, voting in favor, Sen. Fillmore, Sen. Jenkins, Sen. Millner and Sen. Stevenson voting in opposition and Sen. Okerlund absent for the vote.

 

H.B.  54       Economic Development Tax Increment Financing Amendments (R. Edwards)

 

Rep. Edwards explained the bill to the committee assisted by Jeff Van Hulten, Governor’s Office

of Economic Development.

 

MOTION:  Sen. Iwamoto moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed with Sen. Jenkins voting in opposition and Sen. Mayne and Sen. Okerlund absent for the vote

 

H.B.  56       Women in the Economy Commission Amendments (R. Edwards)

 

Rep. Edwards explained the bill to the committee.

 

MOTION:   Sen. Millner moved to pass the bill out favorably.  The motion passed unanimously

                     with Sen. Fillmore voting in opposition and Sen. Mayne and Sen. Okerlund absent for the vote.

 


MOTION:   Sen. Millner moved to adjourn.  The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Mayne and Sen. Okerlund absent for the vote.

 

Chair Fillmore adjourned the meeting at 3:33 p.m.
