Acting Chair Sen. Stephenson called the meeting to order at 8:11 a.m.

 

MOTION:     Chair Millner moved to approve the minutes of February 16, 2017. The motion passed unanimously.


1. S.B. 234 School Turnaround Amendments (Millner, A.)


Sen. Ann Millner explained the bill with the assistance of Dr. Rich Nye, Deputy Superintendent, Utah State Board of Education.

 

MOTION:     Sen. Hillyard moved to pass S.B. 234 out favorably. The motion passed with a vote of 4-0-3.

MOTION:     Sen. Hillyard moved to amend S.B. 196 with Amendment #2.

 

1.    Page 2, Line 51 through Page 3, Line 60:     

 

51   (A) that the materials adopted by a local school board under Subsection (1)(c)(ii)(B)

52shall be based upon recommendations of the school district's Curriculum Materials Review

53Committee that comply with state law and state board rules emphasizing abstinence before

54marriage and fidelity after marriage, and prohibiting instruction in:
