2. Indigent Defense
2016 General Session S.B. 155, Indigent Defense, created the
Utah Indigent Defense Commission and appropriated money to the commission. 2017
General Session S.B. 134, Indigent Defense Commission Amendments, expanded the
commission to include juvenile and parental defense, and made other changes.
The Legislature also appropriated additional money. A representative of the
commission will explain: 1) how money has been spent; 2) future plans for the commission; and 3) any needs for
legislative action.

6. Reports to Judiciary Interim Committee
Various reports to the Judiciary Interim Committee are
written in statute. Some reports are required. Other reports are required only
if requested. Some required reports have report dates that have past. The
committee will discuss which reports to request, which reports to receive an
oral report in addition to the written report, and which report requirements to
eliminate from the statute.

7. Long-Term Planning
Interim Rule 2-2-103 requires each interim committee to
devote part of its May meeting to long-term planning for the areas over which
the committee has jurisdiction.
