10:45AM – 12:15PM               Technology Demos                             David Christensen, Regan Zane

Advanced lithium ion battery management systems:  This demo shows technology advances in energy storage hardware and battery management systems that provide 30-45% longer EV battery pack lifetime and increased value for second life applications.

Electric roadways: Fully electric 20-passenger Aggie Bus with autonomous control and in-motion inductive wireless battery charging.  This demo shows functioning integration of in-motion inductive (wireless) power transfer from multiple concrete-embedded primary pads/coils in the roadway to vehicle-mounted coils and battery system on the Aggie Bus at approximately 30+ MPH on the EVR’s ¼ mile test track.

Fully electric Ford Focus with vision based autonomous control: Deploying inductive power transfer at highway speeds will require that vehicles identify pads embedded in the roadway and align automatically under diverse road and weather conditions.  This demo shows a vehicle in which we were able to gain remote control over steering, accelerating, and braking, and the novel control and vision approaches that allow the vehicle to navigate without human control.
