Utah Code Section 53E-4-203 directs the State Board of Education to establish standards review committees. Without legislative action, this section and related language in Subsection 53E-4-202(8) will repeal on July 1, 2022. The Legislative Management Committee has assigned a sunset review of these statutes to the Education Interim Committee.

State Board of Education Administrative
Rule on Educational Equity and Addressing Critical Race Theory in Public
Education
The State Board of Education (board) recently approved proposed Administrative Rule R277-328 – which addresses how educational equity is included in educator professional learning and classroom instruction –to be filed with the Office of Administrative Rules for publication in the Rules Bulletin and public comment. The committee will hear from board officials about this proposed rule. Board officials will also discuss their response to S.R. 901 and H.R. 901, resolutions on critical race theory in public education passed by the Senate and House of Representatives during the 2021 First Extraordinary Session.
