2.    Education Interim Committee 2022 Study Items and Interim Preparation

The committee will review the list of reports required to be submitted the committee, review study items for the 2022 Education Interim Committee meetings, and adopt the study items list.

3.    Legislative Audit: Public Education Teacher Retention

The committee will hear a report from Office of the Legislative Auditor General staff on audit report #2021-13, A Performance Audit of Teacher Retention Within Utah’s Public Education System. The Legislative Audit Subcommittee assigned this report to the committee on December 7, 2021.

4.    Legislative Audit: Higher Education Police Departments

The committee will hear a report from Office of the Legislative Auditor General staff on audit report #2022-01, A Performance Audit of Higher Education Police Departments. The Legislative Audit Subcommittee assigned this report to the committee on April 20, 2022.

5.    Higher Education: Aligning Technical Education Credit Hours

The committee will hear a presentation on how leaders in the higher education system have been working to better align credit hours in technical colleges and degree-granting institutions to make it easier for students to transfer between institutions.

6.    Public Education: Consolidating Prevention Programs

Utah Code creates multiple programs aimed at prevention and intervention, like school dropout and suicide prevention programs. Local education agencies currently are required to address these prevention efforts through requirements in both statute and administrative rules. The committee will hear a presentation about opportunities to streamline these requirements to deliver programs more efficiently.

7.    Accountability Redesign Update

The committee will receive an update on the progress of the Utah School Accountability System Working Group in its efforts to improve Utah’s school accountability system. Their work is scheduled to conclude by June 30, 2022, with a report due by September 30, 2022.
