1.    Committee Business

·         Call to order and approval of the minutes of the November 15, 2023 meeting

2.    Judiciary Interim Committee 2024 Study Items

The committee will review the list of items that have been proposed for interim study, may modify the list, and will adopt the proposed or amended list of study items (see JR7-1-401).

3.    Authority to Open Judiciary-Related Bill Files

JR7-1-602 allows the committee to grant authority to the chairs to independently open bill files on behalf of the committee during the first interim meeting of the year.

4.    Appellate Decisions that Call for Legislative Action

The Utah Court of Appeals and the Utah Supreme Court sometimes suggest in their written opinions that the

Legislature take an action, such as clarifying a certain provision of a statute. Staff will review the 2023-24 appellate decisions that call for legislative action.

5.    Sunset Review of Limitations on Employer Liability

In accordance with 63I-1-103, the committee will review sunsetting provisions of SB95 “Limitations on Employer Liability” (2022), which addressed the liability of an employer for negligently hiring an employee that has been previously convicted of an offense.

6.    Justice Court Reform Task Force
