2.    Correction’s Presentation

The committee will receive a presentation from the Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) on updates with their drug interdiction program.

3.    Recidivism and Repeat Offenders

The committee will receive a presentation on findings from the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice’s (CCJJ) working group that studied recidivism and repeat offenders. CCJJ will also provide ideas of what can be done statutorily to decrease recidivism.

The committee will receive a presentation from the Criminal Defense Lawyers on how mental illness/substance abuse contribute to crime by repeat offenders, and what can be done statutorily to address the issue of recidivism with individuals who fall into these categories.

The committee will receive a presentation from Adult Probation and Parole on reasons why an individual reoffends, and what resources or statutes will help decrease recidivism.

The committee will receive a presentation from the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office and Intermountain Healthcare on one of their pilot projects and how it impacted recidivism.

4.    Sunset Review: Correctional Postnatal and Early Childhood Advisory Board

The committee will receive a presentation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and UDC on the Correctional Postnatal and Early Childhood Advisory Board, which is set to sunset next year.
