1.    Task Force Business

·         Call to order

·         Approve minutes of the July 17, 2024 meeting

                                               

2.    Local Education Agency School Safety and Security Personnel Updates

House Bill 84 (2024 General Session) requires each local education agency – including school districts and charter schools – to appoint a school safety and security director. The Task Force will hear about local education agencies’ progress in meeting this requirement. This agenda item is a continuation from the July 17, 2024 meeting.

3.    School Safety Conferences Update

Members of the Task Force will hear an update on recent school safety conferences.

4.    Overview of School Safety and Security Requirements for Local Education Agencies

Presenters will provide an overview of the safety and security requirements for schools and school districts. This includes, among other things: the status of the grant application for local education agencies, security personnel requirements, school security assessments, and the role of county and local law enforcement in school safety and security.

5.    Task Force Grant Subcommittee Update

The Task Force will hear an update on the work of the grant subcommittee (see 53F-5-220(6)).

6.    School Scans

Representatives from Digital Twin Imaging (DTI) will provide information about their services. They will provide information during the closed portion of the meeting about a scan they recently conducted for a school in Utah (see Agenda Item 7).

7.    State Security Chief

The State Security Chief will update the Task Force on: (1) hiring staff for the State Security Chief’s office; and (2) school guardian training.

Utah Code Sections 52-4-204 and 52-4-205 allow public bodies to close a meeting to discuss certain matters. This meeting will be closed for a portion of this agenda item for the Task Force to discuss school safety and security requirements. The Task Force will then reopen the meeting to the public.
