2.    LECJ Interim Committee Overview

The committee will receive a presentation from the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel (LRGC) on 2025’s interim study items, the Open and Public Meetings Act, and other committee updates.

3.    A More Comprehensive Approach to Criminal Justice Policy

The committee will receive a presentation from the Utah Defense Attorney Association on taking a more comprehensive approach to criminal justice legislation through analyzing data, fiscal costs, and root causes of criminality.

4.    Earlier Analysis of Bills Impacting Criminal Penalties

The committee will receive a presentation from the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) regarding data that can be provided when opening new bill files, and how Utah compares to other states with increasing criminal penalties.

5.    Solvability of Violent Crime

The committee will receive a presentation from CCJJ on law enforcement’s ability to solve violent crimes and how Utah compares to other states with solvability.

6.    Sentencing Matrixes

The committee will receive a presentation from the Sentencing Commission on how Utah’s sentencing matrixes operate, and the average sentence received, or actual time served for certain offenses. The Sentencing Commission will also share how Utah sentencing compares to other U.S. states.

7.    Cryptocurrency Fraud and Seizure

The committee will receive a presentation from the Utah Attorney Generals Association on cryptocurrency-related fraud in Utah and whether state guidelines are necessary to ensure uniformity when addressing cryptocurrency related crimes.
