Utah Retirement Systems: Retirement
Application Processing and Backlog
In late 2024, Utah
Retirement Systems (URS) began notifying retirement applicants of delays in
processing applications that lead to some retirees receiving their first
benefits deposit greater than 90 days beyond their retirement date. The
committee will receive a presentation from URS staff providing an overview of
retirement application processing, the background and circumstances that led to
delays in processing new applications, and an update on the current status of
the retirement application backlog.

Election Systems: Administration,
Oversight, and Signature Verification
Administration of elections is handled jointly by
Utah’s county clerks and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. In review of
comments related to the 2024 primary and general elections, the committee will
review current processes for verifying voter signatures and compliance with
statutory citizenship requirements, in conjunction with state and local
officials. The committee’s review may include, but is not limited to, rejection
of signatures at the county level and requests for review of signatures by
state officials, mechanisms in place to ensure that the verification process is
protected from conflicts of interest, the role of state officials in
investigating election misconduct, and recommendations from the Office of the
Legislative Auditor General in their 2024 report on Utah's Election System.
