1.    Committee Business

·         Approval of the minutes of the May 20, 2026, meeting

 

2.    Public Education: Successful Arts Education Implementation

Administrators from two schools will present on how they’ve successfully implemented arts education programs.

3.    Sunset Review: Food Security Council

The committee will conduct a sunset review of Utah Code Section 53H-4-313, Food Security Council. This section created the 15-member Food Security Council, housed at Utah State University. Statute tasks the council with providing policy recommendations to ensure that more Utah families have access to food and coordinating statewide efforts to address food security, among other things.

4.    Sunset Review: Higher Education Corrections Council

The committee will conduct a sunset review of Utah Code Sections 53H-1-604, 53H-1-402(1)(k), and 53E-1-201(1)(r). These sections created the 11-member Higher Education Corrections Council to advise the Utah Board of Higher Education on developing and delivering higher education curriculum to individuals in the state’s corrections system.

5.    Legislative Audit: Public Education Reading Programs

The committee will hear a presentation on audit 2026-12, “A Performance Audit of Public Education K-3 Reading Programs.”

6.    Public Education: Special Education Policies and Funding

Legislative staff will provide background information on Utah’s special education policies and special education funding.

7.    Public Education: Institutional Neutrality and Student Clubs

The committee will hear a presentation regarding the 2024 and 2026 legislation regarding institutional neutrality and its application in public and higher education.
