Dunnigan</otherSponsorhead></tbox><lt numlevel="1" lineno="2" slineno="0-2"><lthead lineno="3">LONG TITLE</lthead><gdhead lineno="4">General Description:</gdhead><gd numlevel="1" lineno="5" slineno="0-5">This resolution recognizes the 100th anniversary of the Utah Parent Teacher Association.</gd><hphead lineno="6">Highlighted Provisions:</hphead><hp numlevel="1" lineno="7" slineno="0-7">This resolution:<hl numlevel="1" lineno="8" slineno="0-8" level="1">recognizes the 100th anniversary of the Utah Parent Teacher Association;</hl><hl numlevel="1" lineno="9" slineno="0-9" level="1">acknowledges the importance of engaged and involved parents and families in strong <ln numlevel="1" lineno="10" slineno="0-10"/>student academic performance;</hl><hl numlevel="1" lineno="11" slineno="0-11" level="1">recognizes the role of the Utah Parent Teacher Association in engaging parents and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="12" slineno="0-12"/>families in their children's education to elevate student performance; and</hl><hl numlevel="1" lineno="13" slineno="0-13" level="1">encourages all citizens of Utah to actively engage in the education of the state's children <ln numlevel="1" lineno="14" slineno="0-14"/>and youth.</hl></hp><moni numlevel="1" lineno="15" slineno="0-15" display="none">Money Appropriated in this Bill:</moni><moniNone lineno="16">None</moniNone><oc numlevel="1" lineno="17" slineno="0-17">Other Special Clauses:</oc><ocNone lineno="18">None</ocNone></lt><enacthead lineno="19"/><enact numlevel="1" lineno="20" slineno="0-20">Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:</enact><bdy><bsec buid="1" type="enact" src="reso" uid="RESO" sort="00000R" numlevel="1" lineno="21" slineno="1-1" sn="1"><section type="enact" display="false" src="reso"><amend anum="0" ea="amend" pairid="1" groupid="1" style="X" owner="jchristopherson" level="1" amendtag="both">WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has led locally, regionally, and nationally <ln numlevel="1" lineno="22" slineno="1-2"/>in supporting family engagement and advocating on behalf of all children and families;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="23" slineno="1-3" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, this centennial year provides an opportunity to reflect on the many <ln numlevel="1" lineno="24" slineno="1-4"/>accomplishments of the Utah Parent Teacher Association and celebrate 100 years as a <ln numlevel="1" lineno="25" slineno="1-5"/>powerful voice for children, a trusted resource for parents, and a strong advocate for public <ln numlevel="1" lineno="26" slineno="1-6"/>education;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="27" slineno="1-7" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has been instrumental in establishing <ln numlevel="1" lineno="28" slineno="1-8"/>programs and services that improve children's lives;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="29" slineno="1-9" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has defended public education and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="30" slineno="1-10"/>ensured stable funding;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="31" slineno="1-11" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has advanced parent and family <ln numlevel="1" lineno="32" slineno="1-12"/>engagement in Utah schools;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="33" slineno="1-13" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association was instrumental in creating kindergarten <ln numlevel="1" lineno="34" slineno="1-14"/>with full day options;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="35" slineno="1-15" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has promoted child-labor laws and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="36" slineno="1-16"/>public-health services;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="37" slineno="1-17" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has supported hot-and-healthy lunch <ln numlevel="1" lineno="38" slineno="1-18"/>programs in Utah schools;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="39" slineno="1-19" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has worked to strengthen the juvenile <ln numlevel="1" lineno="40" slineno="1-20"/>justice system;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="41" slineno="1-21" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has protected and ensured growth of <ln numlevel="1" lineno="42" slineno="1-22"/>public trust lands that benefit Utah school children;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="43" slineno="1-23" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has promoted arts in education;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="44" slineno="1-24" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has championed school safety;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="45" slineno="1-25" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the founders of the National Parent Teacher Association, Phoebe Apperson <ln numlevel="1" lineno="46" slineno="1-26"/>Hearst and Alice McLellan Birney, together with Selena Sloan Butler, founder of Georgia's <ln numlevel="1" lineno="47" slineno="1-27"/>Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers, were visionary women of imagination and courage;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="48" slineno="1-28" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, these remarkable leaders broke through the barriers of their time to improve <ln numlevel="1" lineno="49" slineno="1-29"/>the lives of children and families, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire action today;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="50" slineno="1-30" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, these leaders shared a simple yet profound idea to improve the lives and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="51" slineno="1-31"/>futures of all children;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="52" slineno="1-32" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, though our nation has changed, that vision endures as local Parent Teacher <ln numlevel="1" lineno="53" slineno="1-33"/>Associations continue to keep it alive;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="54" slineno="1-34" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, at the founding meeting of the National Congress of Mothers in February <ln numlevel="1" lineno="55" slineno="1-35"/>1897, Mrs. C. E. Allen and Mrs. Arthur Brown of the International Kindergarten Union in Salt <ln numlevel="1" lineno="56" slineno="1-36"/>Lake City, Utah, were in attendance;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="57" slineno="1-37" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, since that time, the organization has steadfastly advocated for the education, <ln numlevel="1" lineno="58" slineno="1-38"/>health, safety, and well-being of all children, earning broad public appreciation and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="59" slineno="1-39"/>recognition;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="60" slineno="1-40" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, in October 1925, at the annual convention of the Utah Education Association, <ln numlevel="1" lineno="61" slineno="1-41"/>Margaretta Reeves, President of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, officially <ln numlevel="1" lineno="62" slineno="1-42"/>invited the Utah Mother's Congress to join the national organization;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="63" slineno="1-43" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, accepting this invitation, Utah became the Utah Congress of Parents and <ln numlevel="1" lineno="64" slineno="1-44"/>Teachers, with Lucille Young Reid as its first President;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="65" slineno="1-45" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, this marked a new era of parent and family engagement in Utah;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="66" slineno="1-46" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, today, the Utah Parent Teacher Association is the largest volunteer <ln numlevel="1" lineno="67" slineno="1-47"/>child-advocacy organization in Utah;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="68" slineno="1-48" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association unites parents, caregivers, grandparents, <ln numlevel="1" lineno="69" slineno="1-49"/>educators, and other caring adults in a shared mission to make every child's potential a reality;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="70" slineno="1-50" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, for a century, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has left a lasting impact on <ln numlevel="1" lineno="71" slineno="1-51"/>schools, families, and communities across the state;<eol numlevel="1" lineno="72" slineno="1-52" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, the Utah Parent Teacher Association has fostered leadership and empowered <ln numlevel="1" lineno="73" slineno="1-53"/>voices throughout Utah; and<eol numlevel="1" lineno="74" slineno="1-54" display="tab"/>WHEREAS, generations of children have benefited from stronger educational <ln numlevel="1" lineno="75" slineno="1-55"/>opportunities, healthier environments, and a greater sense of belonging through the work of the <ln numlevel="1" lineno="76" slineno="1-56"/>Utah Parent Teacher Association:<eol numlevel="1" lineno="77" slineno="1-57" display="tab"/>NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the <ln numlevel="1" lineno="78" slineno="1-58"/>Governor concurring therein, honors the 100th anniversary of the Utah Parent Teacher <ln numlevel="1" lineno="79" slineno="1-59"/>Association and the thousands of hours parent volunteers have dedicated to support the <ln numlevel="1" lineno="80" slineno="1-60"/>education of Utah's students.<eol numlevel="1" lineno="81" slineno="1-61" display="tab"/>BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage all <ln numlevel="1" lineno="82" slineno="1-62"/>citizens of Utah to actively participate in the education of Utah's most precious resource: the <ln numlevel="1" lineno="83" slineno="1-63"/>state's children and youth.</amend><sectionText/></section></bsec></bdy><foot><rev><tm>1-21-26 2:05 PM</tm></rev></foot></leg>
