2. Educator Salaries and Retention
Ms. Diana Suddreth, Director, Teaching and Learning, Utah State Board of Education, and Mr. Travis Rawlings, Educator Licensing Coordinator, Utah State Board of Education, discussed teacher retention rates and research conducted on the relationship between teacher retention and other variables, such as teacher salaries.

Mr. Stephen Dimond, Director, Human Resources, Canyons School District, reviewed the results of an exit survey the district conducted of departing teachers.
Ms. Donnette McNeill-Waters, Director, Human Resources, Granite School District, reviewed teacher retention in the district.
Mr. Jason Cox, Director, Human Resources, Provo School District, reviewed teacher retention in the district.
MOTION: Rep. Poulson moved to approve the minutes.The motion passed with a vote of 13 - 0 - 6 .

Dr. Andrea Rorrer, Director, Utah Education Policy Center, and Associate Dean, College of Education, University of Utah, discussed a planned survey of current and former teachers aimed at understanding why teachers continue teaching and why teachers leave the profession.

Mr. Jeremias Solari, Manager, Utah Data Research Center, Department of Workforce Services, discussed how teacher salaries compare to salaries for other professions that require similar degrees.

Chair Peterson invited public comment.
Ms. Heidi Matthews, President, Utah Education Association, discussed multiple factors that affect teacher retention.
Mr. Terry Shoemaker, Executive Director, Utah School Superintendents Association, discussed issues affecting teachers in the state.
3. Every Student Succeeds Act State Plan
Dr. Sydnee Dickson, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Dr. Patty Norman, Deputy Superintendent of Student Achievement, Utah State Board of Education, described the board's draft Every Student Succeeds Act state plan.

Ms. Tiffany Stanley, Policy Advisor, Utah State Board of Education, responded to questions and comments from the committee.

Chair Peterson said this agenda item would be discussed at the next meeting.
