3.    Flushable Wipes in Sewer Lines and Water Treatment Plants

The committee will receive an overview on the impacts of “flushable wipes” on sewer districts, including costs to communities and potential solutions for community outreach on the issue. A representative of Wasatch Front Water Quality Council, a coalition of Publicly Owned Treatment Works in Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties, will provide the overview to the committee.

4.    Heavy-Duty Equipment Emissions and Emissions Control Options

The committee will receive an overview on the emissions and emissions control options related to freight switchers, mining equipment, and other heavy-duty equipment, including equipment regulation and compliance, costs and benefits of emissions control retrofits, and potential impacts on air quality due to equipment enhancements in these areas.

5.    Universal Public Telecommunications Service Support Fund Cap

The committee will receive an overview on the Universal Public Telecommunications Service Support Fund (USF) under Utah Code Section 54-8b-15, including USF’s recent legislative history. Public telecommunications providers will present on issues and policy options relating to implementing a cap on the size of the USF.

6.    Electrical Grid Resiliency

The committee will receive an overview on baseload power supply and means of enhancing electrical grid resiliency in Utah, including strategies for enhanced vegetation management in highest-risk fire locations and due to other weather-related scenarios, partnerships between state fire officials and utilities, and other liabilities issues for utilities in ensuring a resilient and reliable grid system.
