Rep. Dan N. Johnson explained the bill with the assistance of Robert Austin, Social Studies Specialist, Utah State Board of Education.

Rep. Johnson moved to amend H.B. 334 with Amendment #1.

1.        Page 1, Lines 13 through 22: 
13                 This bill:
14                 ▸         defines terms;
15                 ▸         creates a civics engagement pilot program to assess the benefits of, and methods for,
16         implementing a requirement to complete a civics engagement project as a condition
17         for receiving a high school diploma;
18                 ▸         provides for training for teachers in schools participating in the pilot program; and
19                 ▸         requires schools participating in the pilot program to submit a report to the State
20         Board of Education { ; and } .
21                 { ▸         repeals the requirement to pass a basic civics test as a condition for receiving a high }
