Dr. Nicole Mihalopoulos, Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine, and Medical Director, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine Clinic, University of Utah, and Medical Director, Gender Management and Support Clinic, Intermountain Healthcare, shared excerpts from a Journal of The American Medical Association (JAMA) article, "Legislation to Criminalize Gender-Affirming Medical Care for Transgender Youth." She also shared her experience treating transgender minors and answered committee questions.

Rep. Rex Shipp shared his concerns with transgender treatment for minors and answered committee questions.
David Clarke Pruden, former Adjunct Professor, Utah State University, and Managing Editor, Journal of Human Sexuality, shared his thoughts on treatment for transgender minors and answered committee questions.
Dr. Erin Brewer, PhD in Instructional Technology and Learning Science, shared her personal experience with gender dysphoria as a minor, shared stories of other people who went through transgender transitioning treatment as minors, and answered committee questions.
Chair Nelson invited a roundtable discussion between Rep. Shipp, his co-presenters, Dr. Mihalopoulos, and the committee.
2.Participation by Transgender Youth in School Sports
3.1 2021 H.B. 302, Preserving Sports for Female Students
Rep. Kera Birkeland shared her experience with, and thoughts on, female student athletes competing in youth sports and clarified certain content included in 2021 H.B. 302 "Preserving Sports for Female Students." She also shared her opinion on other organizations' transgender policies and answered committee questions.
3.5.1 Handout: "Interps & Guidelines 1.1.4: Transgender Participation" (excerpt from 2020-21 UHSAA Handbook) (Submitted by Dave Spatafore, UHSAA)
David Spatafore, Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA), spoke to the Association's policy on participation in youth sports by transgender students, shared UHSAA's concerns about costs of potential legislation that would change their policy, and answered committee questions.
Sue Robbins, Equality Utah Transgender Advisory Council, shared a statement on transgender participation in sports, talked about policies from other organizations, and answered committee questions.
Chair Nelson invited a roundtable discussion between Rep. Birkeland, David Spatafore, Sue Robbins, and the committee.
3.Adjourn
MOTION:Sen. Kennedy moved to adjourn the meeting.The motion passed with a vote of 11-0-7.
