1.Committee Business
Chair Sandall called the meeting to order.
The members of the committee introduced themselves.
2.Report from Iron County
Mike Blake, Commissioner, Iron County, gave a brief introduction of Iron County representatives in attendance.
3.Overview of Redistricting
Jerry Howe gave an overview of redistricting.
Michael Curtis gave an overview of legal aspects of redistricting.
4.Redistricting Plans
Tyson Bomsta, Resident, presented a redistricting map to the committee.
The committee asked questions of Tyson Bomsta.
5.Public Comment and Committee Discussion About Redistricting
Paul Cozzens, Commissioner, Iron County, spoke on rural concerns and making sure rural Utah areas are being represented.
Katie Matheson, Alliance for a Better Utah, shared concerns with the map that had been previously presented to the committee.
Kelly Stowell, Resident, commented on respective areas, different geological obstacles, and taking into account different economic connections between areas of the state.
Marilyn Wood, Commissioner, Iron County, commented on rural concerns and wanting to keep United States Representative Chris Stewart as the Representative for the area.
Representative Rex Shipp, District 72, gave an introduction and commented on redistricting.
Senator Evan Vickers, District 28, thanked the redistricting committee for their work and commented on redistricting.
Chair Sandall gave an overview of the Redistricting Committee's remaining schedule.
6.Other Items/Adjourn
MOTION:Sen. Ipson moved to adjourn.The motion passed with a vote of 19-0-1.
