Sen. Jani Iwamoto presented the bill with the assistance of Rosie Rivera, Salt Lake County Sheriff. Dianna Cervantes, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy, was invited to talk about her experience of becoming a correctional officer at age nineteen.
Spencer Turley, UDC Prison Operations Director, discussed the challenges of hiring sufficient officers for the state prison and spoke in support of the bill.
Chad Jensen, Utah Sheriffs' Association, spoke in support of the bill.
Spencer Turley was invited to answer questions from the committee.
