James Evans, former Utah State Senator, and Jeanetta Williams, President, NAACP Salt Lake Branch, presented on a proposal to create an ethics commission for local school boards.
Nichole Mason, President, Utah Parents United, Mike Brown, resident, Lisa Davis, resident, and Andrea Nelson, resident, spoke about their personal experiences with local school boards.
Michael Clara, former Salt Lake City School Board member, spoke about previous school board policies and the Open and Public Meetings Act.
Lexi Cunningham, Executive Director, Utah School Boards Association and Utah School Superintendents Association, and Linda Hanks, President, Utah School Boards Association, provided input on the proposal to create an ethics commission.
James Evans responded to questions from the committee.

MOTION:Sen. Grover moved to approve the minutes of the September 21, 2022, meeting.The motion passed with a vote of 15-0-3.

The committee discussed the presentation.

Brooke Stephens, Utah Parents United, and Diane Livingston, resident, spoke about their personal experiences with sensitive materials in schools.
