Line Item: Emergency Fund

Function

The Governor's Emergency Fund is a separate line-item in the Governor's Office. It is appropriated by the Legislature so that the Governor has some funds with which to address a crisis or disaster without calling a special session. If funds are not used in a given year, they carry forward into the next fiscal year.

Statutory Authority

Authorization for expenditures from the Emergency Fund is found in UCA 63-38-10.

Intent Language

Under Section 63-38-8 of the Utah Code the Legislature intends that any remaining amount of the $100,000 provided by Item 8 of Senate Bill 1, State Agency and Higher Education Base Budget Appropriations (2008 General Session) shall not lapse at the close of fiscal year 2009.
