UCA 59-21-2 directs the use of these funds. The Department of Workforce Services is to distribute the money to special service districts in counties of the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth class who are significantly impacted by the development of minerals.

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $8,545,900 from all sources for Special Service Districts. This is a 16.3 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.

Statute

UCA 59-21-2 provides 5% of all deposits from the Mineral Lease Account to the Department of Workforce Services for distribution to special service districts.

SB0002: Item 80

The Legislature intends that the Department of Workforce Services report on the following performance measure for the Special Service Districts line item: the Department of Workforce Services is required to pass through the funds to qualifying special service districts in counties of the 5th, 6th and 7th class (this is completed quarterly) by January 1, 2016 to the Social Services Appropriations Subcommittee.
