FY 2016 Appropriation

The Protective Services Bureau of the Utah Highway Patrol is responsible for guarding the Capitol Complex, Travel Council, Pioneer Museum, the Governor's Mansion, Heber Wells Building and the Rampton Complex against theft, vandalism, and prowlers, as well as maintaining peace and order at these sites.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $5,306,800 from all sources for Highway Patrol - Protective Services. This is a 10.9 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $3,161,800 from the General/Education Funds, an increase of 15.3 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

Under section 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for The Department of Public Safety - Programs and Operations line item not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015.

SB0002: Item 18

The Legislature intends that the department is authorized to increase its fleet by the same number of new officers authorized and funded by the legislature for FY 2016
