Canyons Resort
Canyons employee Sarah Myers is spending her summer volunteering with the National Ability Center through the Vail Resorts Epic Volunteers program.
Employee Spotlight: Sarah Myers

For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we introduce Canyons Senior Digital Marketing Manager, Sarah Myers, who is spending a portion of her summer volunteering with the National Ability Center (NAC) as a part of Vail Resorts Epic Volunteers. Epic Volunteers provides employees across the company with 40 hours of paid time off to volunteer with the charity of their choice – locally, nationally and even abroad.
Sarah spends one afternoon a week as a Hippotherapy Sidewalker for three different NAC participants of varying ages and abilities. Hippotherapy is used by physical, occupational and speech therapists and incorporates the movement of a horse as a treatment platform. Sarah selected the NAC as her Epic Volunteer partner after her own son Charlie participated with the NAC's Hippotherapy to help gain core strength and mobility after being born prematurely with mild Cerebral Palsy. Since participating in Hippotherapy, Charlie has progressed from walking with a reverse walker to not only walking, but skiing, independently.
“Being a mother who works full-time, I assumed I would have to wait until Charlie was much older before I could volunteer at the NAC. Through Epic Volunteers and with the support of my employer, I have been able to fulfill my dream of volunteering years before I thought it would be possible.”
Follow Sarah's Epic Volunteers experience here Canyons and Vail Resorts are honored to support the NAC through Sarah's service as well as through cash and product donations towards youth scholarships.
Developing Our Next 'Earth Guardians'
Canyons is proud to support Recycle Utah in educating Park City about simple ways to protect our environment, but perhaps the best component of this partnership is the children’s Adventure Day Camp, recently hosted at the Recycle Utah facility.

As a part of the camp’s “Green Week,” 20 local kids got to tour Recycle Utah’s daily operations, learning about how and what to recycle. Canyons Environmental Manager Dana Edwards also stopped by to speak to the kids about composting and what it means to be a steward of the land.
“Local kids are the best teachers in town," said Insa Riepen, executive director with Recycle Utah. “Having them come for a behind-the-scenes tour of our community center empowers them to make changes in their families and beyond. They got to listen and learn, stomp and sort. Now, they are our new set of Earth Guardians.”
Grant Applications Due
August 4

A friendly reminder that Vail Resorts is now accepting grant applications from youth and environmental nonprofit organizations located in Summit and Wasatch Counties. To apply, each organization must fill out an online application. Grant applications are due by Monday, August 4. Last year, Vail Resorts partnered with 26 Park City nonprofit organizations, most of which fit into our focus areas of youth and environmental initiatives, with cash and product donations. Questions? Construction of New Cloud Dine Underway

We are proud to report that the construction of a permanent Cloud Dine building atop Dream Peak is well under way. Cloud Dine is one of Canyons’ most popular on-mountain dining locations, offering a fresh menu of items including made-to-order salads, homemade flat bread pizzas and specialty sandwiches. The new Cloud Dine building will almost double in size to almost 7,900 square feet, with an outdoor deck space of about 850 square feet. The restaurant is scheduled to open December 1 for the 2014-15 winter season.
A special "Insider Tip": Be sure to get to there early one morning next season for a famous Cloud Dine doughnut - they go quick!
