Dr. Victor Lee is an assistant professor of instructional technology and learning sciences in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at Utah State University. He earned bachelor's degrees in cognitive science and in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego and a Ph.D. in learning sciences from Northwestern University. His research on student learning and on new uses of technology in education have been published in a variety of leading journals. Dr. Lee has been recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER award, the Jan Hawkins Award for Early Career Contributions to Humanistic Research and Scholarship in Learning Technologies, and a fellowship from the National Academy of Education and Spencer Foundation. His forthcoming book, Learning Technologies and the Body, will be published in late 2014.
Wearable technologies are rapidly becoming a part of our everyday lives, but they have not yet found their way into the classroom. Dr. Victor Lee will discuss how wearable devices can go beyond individual health tracking and be used to introduce students to the complex world of data analysis. Drawing from examples of his own classroom-based research and design work, done in partnership with Utah schools, Dr. Lee shows what students are capable of discovering and accomplishing with this newly emerging technology. His research models a technologically enhanced approach for the K-12 education system that has the potential to cultivate and develop a data-savvy populace and future workforce.
