Subject: Immigration Task Force You Are Invited: Meet the Candidates Breakfast (September 25, 2014) and Task Force Update
Date: Tue Sep 23 21:27:11 MDT 2014
Salt Lake Chamber Immigration Task Force Member,
Please see the below information regarding the Meet the Candidates Breakfast this Thursday, September 25, 2014. We only have a few more seats so please RSVP to Audrey Toller (email@example.com) asap.
Also, we wanted to reach out to you as a task force. Immigration reform remains one of the top priorities for the Salt Lake Chamber and we know that it is an extremely important issue for many of our members and Utah’s business community. We will share that message this next week on our annual trip to Washington, D.C.
The five principles articulated in the Utah Compact remain our guiding principles in regard to immigration reform. Specifically, the first principle “FEDERAL SOLUTIONS: Immigration is a federal policy issue between the U.S. government and other countries—not Utah and other countries. We urge Utah’s congressional delegation, and others, to lead efforts to strengthen federal laws and protect our national borders. We urge state leaders to adopt reasonable policies addressing immigrants in Utah.” Because of this principle, we have continued to meet with each member of our delegation over that past several months and we believe they understand the business community’s perspective and urgency for action on this issue. We have also led out on public events with key partners to demonstrate our support including a press-event at the Utah State Capitol in May and Immigration Roundtable in early July.
We will continue to keep you updated any other events or key meetings in the coming months, such as the one below. However, we will continue to not meet on a regular basis. As momentum and discussions around this issue continue to evolve we will reevaluate the need for a standard meeting and reach out to committee members at that time.
If you have any questions please let Jason, Jesse, Justin or myself know.
