YWCA Releases Briefing About Women in Utah

On May 2, 2014, the YWCA Utah, in collaboration with the Institute for Women's Policy Research in Washington, D.C., released a research briefing entitled Women's Well-Being in Utah: An Overview as the first project of the Utah Women's Well-Being Initiative. Over 60 people attended the briefing launch where Anne Burkholder, YWCA Utah CEO, spoke about the YWCA's interest in this initiative and shared highlights from the briefing.

The Utah Women's Well-Being Initiative began in 2013 as an effort to respond more effectively to persistent challenges Utah women face. The purpose of the initiative is to strengthen the well-being of Utah women across important dimensions of their lives through research, education, collaboration, and public policy - so that women flourish, their families and communities thrive, and Utah prospers.

Thank You for Honoring Strong Women

The YWCA Utah, with the generous support of Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, launched the Strong Women Strong Communities membership campaign in late April. Women across the state were encouraged to join the YWCA Utah and to honor strong women who have had an impact on their life.

The campaign featured three strong women - Former Congresswoman Karen Shepherd, Mrs. Utah America 2002 Maureen Mink, and YWCA member and community volunteer Gloria Faulkner - sharing their personal stories of empowerment and inspiration. Click on the video below to see their stories.

The names of strong women honored during the campaign will displayed on our Strong Women Strong Communities banner May 19 until June 19 on the corner of 300 South and 300 East.
