I would like to see Utah begin adopting building codes at a 6 year interval instead of at the current 3 year interval. Building requirements are not changing rapidly enough to merit all of the extra money spent in learning new, but substantively identical codes every three years. The cost to local governments in training for code review, and to business in its own training is irresponsible. Please consider supporting a 6 year code interval for both residential and commercial building construction.
I am a licensed engineer working on the structural design of buildings. I received my B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from BYU. I have 5 years of experience in building design and have worked under the 2006, 2009, and 2012 building codes.
Thanks for listening,
