I was surprised and disappointed with the Governor’s veto of the UPSTART and K-3 reading intervention programs.  My understanding is that Utah has the least amount of education funding per student in the nation.  I viewed these programs as the right investment to help offset the overall lack of K-12 spending with individualized, digital instruction.  If a student can’t pass a 4th grade reading test, they significantly increase the probability of dropping out.  If they drop out of school, Utah will pay a huge social and economic price.

Please do the right thing, think about the kids, and vote to repeal the Governor’s veto on these programs.
